THE MYSTERY OF THE PIRATE GHOST has 3 weeks left!

Update: THE MYSTERY OF THE PIRATE GHOST closed on 2/17.  Thanks to Lifeline, Paul, the cast and crew, and everyone who came to see it.  I’m looking forward to writing another kids’ show in the near future!

The kids have been squealing, the adults have been laughing, the cast is having a ball, and the reviews have been stellar: TimeOut Chicago Kids saidPirate Ghost was the best kids’ show I’ve seen at [Lifeline Theatre]” and that the show is “legit scary” and “hits all the right notes.”   Chicago Theater Beat said the show “brings us all of the excitement, suspense, and spookiness of a ghost hunt, complete with delightful characters and thrilling visuals.”

THE MYSTERY OF THE PIRATE GHOST is a hit up at Lifeline, and you have 3 more weeks to catch it!

Of course, I’ll post here about any productions that pop up outside of Chicago for you out-of-towners, and hopefully I’ll be writing something for kids again very soon.  It’s been so great, and so gratifying to see so many youngsters empowered by the play’s messages of bravery, identifying and facing fears openly, and at the same time understanding that being scared can be fun!  (Auntie Hick isn’t so sure…)

Watching kids’ reactions (and hearing them!) has been so rewarding. But the highlight of the run for me?  My 5-year-old nephew Vinnie and 3-year-old niece Marin came to Chicago with my brother Steve and his wife Marisa for opening weekend, and Vinnie and Marin got to see their first play ever!  And Uncle Scott wrote it!  And it’s an adaptation of a book I loved as a kid!  AND Casey is the lead!  It really doesn’t get any better than that.

Here’s Vinnie getting revved up for his first time at the THEE-A-TAH!

And here’s Marin and Uncle Scott after the show (Vinnie was camera shy):

Many thanks to Lifeline Theatre and to Geoffrey Hayes for making this adventure a possibility.  I’m so grateful.
