KILL ME is closed, here’s what’s next

The WildClaw Theatre production of KILL ME closed on March 18 after a 6-week run at the Athenaeum.  I am so thankful for this production, Jeff Christian and WildClaw did jaw-dropping work on the play and the cast and crew were just impeccable.  I’m very humbled and thankful to be in such great company, and I was thrilled to share KILL ME with our Chicago audience.  It would take more than two hands to count how many people told me it was “unlike anything they’d ever seen before.”  About as great a compliment as a playwright can get.  I’m excited to see where KILL ME goes next.

A couple things coming down the pipe.  I’m movement director for the Strawdog Theatre Company production of The Duchess of Malfi, whichs opens in Chicago on April 22.  I’m having a blast working on Malfi, and finding that I’m really, really enjoying directing movement work, having done the movement for KILL ME as well.  So yeah…if you’re looking for a movement director/designer…

Several writing projects in April/May as well:

Deliver Us From Nowhere, April 26-May 20, @ Right Brain Project

I wrote one of the pieces for Deliver Us From Nowhere, Tympanic Theatre Company‘s next production, opening April 26.  Deliver Us is an assembly of ten short plays each inspired by a different song from Bruce Springsteen’s album Nebraska.  My short play THE STRAY is based on the song “Highway Patrolman” and will be directed by Allison Shoemaker.

One-Minute Play Festival, April 15-16 @ Victory Gardens

I was asked to contribute to this year’s One-Minute Play Festival at VG.  I wrote two pieces entitled “You Again” and “Red Scare.”  Very fun challenge!  Here’s some more info about it: “The One-Minute Play Festival (OMPF) is an NYC-based theatre company, founded by director/dramaturg Dominic D’Andrea, which works in partnership with institutional theatres and collectives who share playwright or community-specific missions across the country. OMPF is the first and only major American One-Minute Play Festival, collaborating with theatres like Primary Stages, The Playwrights Foundation, Boston Playwrights Theatre, Victory Gardens, Actors Express, Cornerstone Theatre Company, The South Florida Theatre League and The Deering Estate, and more former and upcoming in the current season.”

YOUR TEACHER IS OUT TODAY, April 28 at 2 pm @ Chicago Dramatists Saturday Series

If you missed H.B. Ward reading YOUR TEACHER at American Theatre Company back in December, don’t miss him this time at Chicago Dramatists.  Marti Lyons will return to direct.  The Saturday Series takes place at Chicago Dramatists, 1105 W Chicago, at 2pm most Saturdays.

And that’s not all.  More happening this May and into summer, including my first international production!  More updates to come.
